What You May Expect From Your Session
The session starts with an evaluation. Questions about why you are here for the session and what would you like to accomplish. If you are having problems when did you first notice it, what causes the pain, and with whom did you see regarding this problem in the past?
If you are having only Craniosacral Therapy, you can remain fully clothed except for your shoes and belt to be removed, otherwise you will be asked to change into a bathing suit, or shorts for men and shorts and bra for women.
I will assess posture, noticing the body the body's alignment, balance, and movement and possibly strength and range of motion. I may look at your front, back and side views, as you stand.
Before I begin each session I say a short prayer quietly to myself, and then I 'move out of the way' and allow your body to begin to heal itself during the session. Our bodies are intelligent and knows how to repair and re-align itself to health.
It is good for you to center yourself, and bring your presence down into your body. Healing of your mind/body cannot completely occur if you are not fully 'present'. Also, pain control drugs or alcohol will makes it harder for you to connect with your body, to heal and to notice your changes .
I center myself and become fully present in the session. My main focus is what I feel happening and pay attention to the changes within you. Throughout the session I will pay attention to restrictions I feel and see and listen to what changes you tell me that you feel in your body. Any feeling of change is important to notice and may or may not include temperature, tightness, tingle, pain, peripheral temperature or an "air breeze" at different locations, may be located other than where I am working on.
There should be no discomfort with this therapy and it is a profoundly relaxing experience. If there is any discomfort I would like you to let me know so I can lighten the touch. If for any reason you feel uncomfortable, please let me know and all of your requests shall be respected. I welcome all feedback.
A very light touch may be used and you may not feel the touch at all. You may not feel any changes occurring inside of your until you've had further sessions because your body may have many restrictions in different areas that prevents you to being sensitive and aware of your body, but this will change and soon you will be able to "feel".
Many times clients fall 'asleep'. You may appear asleep, and may even be snoring, being at a level of peace, but you are fully aware of what is going on and can change to alertness quickly and easily for any reason.
You may be sensitive to the feelings of what is going on and pay attention to the fascia release. There can be feelings of tingly, vibration, and movement within the body and possibly emotional feelings showing up to leave. It's a very subtle movement of motion of fascia felt below the skin.
When I am working on an area, it may not be at the location where you have the problems. This is because the fascia is all connected and with what appears to be not effective because it it not near the pain they may have experienced at home, it may in fact be just what is needed. If I am working in the right shoulder area and you feel something, (hot, hard, pain, redness, etc.), at your left thigh- that may mean the left thigh is the area that needs to be worked on next and it is connected to the right shoulder. The fascia is all related.
I may ask you to let me know of any changes you feel anywhere in your body or emotions. It is important for you to 'face' the area of discomfort in order to release it, whether it is emotional or physical feelings. What you don't want to do is to ignore it and stuff it back down because the build-up of the accumulation of the problem can only be dissolved by noticing it, allowing and accepting it, and then allowing it to stay or leave- let it go effortlessly and it will usually leave.
If you need to move your head or body part repeatedly or you feel like crying- then let it happen, as these are ways your body is letting go of past traumas.
I will hold, gentle to aggressively, sustained stretches with my hands, attentively working the issues through with you.
Complete fascia release of your whole body cannot be expected with only 1 visit, especially if your problems have been long standing (chronic). If you do not feel any change from your first appointment, that is not an indicator of success for your appointment because fascia changes invariably do occur each with each session and many times in the beginning clients are not sensitive enough to be able to notice the changes. It is similar to the unfolding of an onion with many layers that need to be peeled, in a process. There are no quick shortcuts, unfortunately.
Myofascial Release is most effectively done as a treatment program with a frequency of one to three times per week for several weeks. This allows the tissues to release, the body to move back into proper alignment, and for the home exercises to be practiced and understood for continued improvement and maintenance.
At the very least, the common results from the sessions are: feelings of "looseness", feeling "lighter" in an area, feeling "very relaxed", feeling the "lessening or absence of pain", feeling "'negative energy' has left", feeling "spiraling or dissolving of the scars" ( where there was once a bump is now a flat depression where the scar used to be). One client told me that she felt so happy and felt like her body wanted to dance since it was now "free" from the restrictions. In most cases, clients sleep extremely well that night. Blocks in meridian pathways are thought of as being cleared by some. Spiritually, others think that this process may possibly help clear the connection to their higher self, to God (or "Source" or whomever that client believes in), and many times positive things begin to happen in some way with the client.
