What Is The Difference Between Bodywork and Massage ?
Look at the image of Vicki, with Release the Pain, doing a bodywork session on her friend. Notice that unlike a regular massage, this client is wearing clothes. In addition to that there is no need to add massage oil or use essential oils. During the session, the client participates in the session, especially if using the methods of active release and is asked to stand up and walk around during the session to notice the differences after working on an area. The clients do notice an immediate positive improvement. Even though the clients are participating, they still report that they feel more relaxed, and loose. One person who came in with intense neck and shoulder pain said after the session that her head reminded her of being a 'Bobble Head', because her once stiff, hard, tight ,and painful neck was so now very loose, and soft to touch. Clients report that they sleep better that night as well.
Because the clients are fully clothed, they are welcomed to bring others into the room to wait during the session. This is not normally done at the regular massage sessions where the client is usually undressed and has a sheet draped over them.
It is easier to return back to work, since there are no oils or smell placed on the body and a shower is not necessary, Being already clothed, ending the session is much quicker !

What IS Bodywork Massage?
The modality that I use to help people is called Energy Bodywork Massage, (it is not Swedish Massage and I do not use oils).
Many people here in the Sacramento area, and throughout the world, are not familiar with Bodywork Massage but they should be. Bodywork massage is an alternative treatment for helping to bring health back to individuals, including dogs and animals. As defined in wikipedia, ..."In alternative medicine, bodywork is any therapeutic or personal development technique that involves working with the human body in a form involving manipulative therapy, breath work, or energy medicine. Bodywork techniques also aim to assess or improve posture, promote awareness of the "bodymind connection" rather than the "mind-body connection", or to manipulate a so-called "energy field" surrounding the human body and affecting health..."
I use all 3 above, ( manipulative therapy, breathwork, and energy medicine) in helping my clients, (and dogs, too), find relief from pain and discomforts, helping their bodies to bring back the return of health and function.

Bodywork Massage- "Alternative Medicine"
The following is more information derived from Wikipedia on Bodywork Massage (Alternative Medicine):
Some of the best known forms of non-touch bodywork methods include: reiki, yoga, pranayama, as well as other non-touch methods: breathwork respiration techniques, therapeutic touch, Bates method for sight training, gigong, and t'ai chi.
The better known forms of manipulative bodywork include Alexander technique, applied kinesiology, Bowen technique, chiropractic, craniosacral therapy, Feldenkrais method, Hakomi, reflexology, Rolfing Structural Integration, shiatsu, Somatic Experiencing, and Trager Approach.
One form of bodywork is deep tissue massage therapy, and the terms massage and bodywork are often used interchangeably. While bodywork includes all forms of massage techniques, it also includes many other types of touch therapies
Statistics in the United States regarding Bodywork Therapy
According to a 2002 survey of adults in the United States by the National Center for Complementary and Integrative Medicine (NCCIH) and the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS):
Acupuncture was used by 4.0% of the population, with 1.1% having used it in the last year.
Chiropractic was used by 19.9% of the population, with 7.5% having used it in the last year.
Deep breathing exercises were used by 14.6% of the population, with 11.6% having used the technique in the last year.
Yoga was used by 7.5% of the population, with 5.1% having used it in the last year.
T'ai chi was used by 2.5% of the population, with 1.3% having used it in the last year.
Qigong was used by 0.5% of the population, with 0.3% having used it in the last year.
Energy healing and reiki were used by 1.1% of the population, with 0.5% having used it in the last year."
Another form of Bodywork treatment that results from Bodywork is Myofascial Release Therapy. It is this type of bodywork therapy that I predominately use, while combining with other modalities, during the therapeutic massage session in my Sacramento practice. I hope you will decide to try Bodywork Massage for gaining health and feeling better, as it is a wonderful experience!
